Hanael and Machabit — a new Israeli comedy based on the hit web series by Osherit Sarusi and Chen Rotman. Directed by Udi Gotshalk. Cast: Osherit Sarusi, Chen Rotman, Keren Mor-Mishori, Chai Maor, Mika Shibak, Tom Zidner, Ravit Yaakov, and more. Hanael and Machabit draws on familiar and beloved characters from the successful web series, expanding their story into new territory. Machabit, who works as a teacher and counselor at a girls' religious seminary, finds herself at the start of a complicated new chapter in life after divorcing Hanael — the institution's dean of students. The routine that follows the crisis is shattered when she discovers that Hanael is having a romantic relationship with a young woman doing her national service at the school. Faced with this discovery, she gives him a firm and clear ultimatum: either he ends the relationship, or he leaves his position at the seminary. Meanwhile, a chance but meaningful encounter with a colleague from the teachers' lounge sends Machabit on a new personal journey. That colleague creates a dating-app profile for her, and without planning it, Machabit finds herself slowly drawn into a world she never knew — one that shakes her inner world and lets her see herself from a fresh angle. The changes in Machabit's life don't stay contained — they unsettle Hanael, throw him off balance, and raise questions he never dared confront. Against this backdrop, an inevitable question rises to the surface: could a reunion between them be possible, one that might untangle the complicated ties they've found themselves in — or does the path they've carved lead each of them down a different road? The play was written by Chen Rotman and Osherit Sarusi, the creators and writers behind the cult series "Zot Ve'Zoti". Hanael and Machabit was first presented as a staged reading as part of the 2024 "Potchim Bama" festival, where it drew considerable interest that already hinted at its future stage journey.
