Tula and the Amazonas Quartet - Tula Sings in Portuguese (20:30)

The doors, bar and restaurant open at 19:00. It is recommended to arrive close to the doors opening. This special show was born on May 5th. This is the date declared by UNESCO as Portuguese Language Day, marked every year with cultural events across the "Lusophone world" - the Portuguese-speaking world, home to about 250 million people. This past May 5th, we were asked by the embassies of Portugal, Brazil, Cape Verde and Angola - Portuguese-speaking countries - to put on a private performance of beloved traditional songs from these countries for the diplomatic corps. The show was performed by the wonderful singer Tula Ben Ari and the Amazonas band, made up of our finest musicians, who usually perform at Shablul with a tribute to Jobim's bossa nova. The audience, familiar with the music from home, was mesmerized, and by the end of the show all the suit-and-tie wearers were already on their feet dancing. It was so much fun that we felt compelled to put on the show again for the wider public, exactly as it was on May 5th. It will feature a special blend of South America, Africa and Europe - a diverse mosaic of sounds and rhythms: samba, choro and bossa from Brazil, fado from Portugal, kizomba from Angola, and morna from Cape Verde, known to many thanks to Cesaria Evora. Tula Ben Ari, a captivating international singer, moves freely between different musical styles, producing a personal sound that is exotic, sensitive and explosive, mature and passionate. The band's guitarist, Marcelo Nami from Brazil, whose mother tongue is Portuguese, will join Tula in singing some of the songs. A celebration!
