A play in Russian with Hebrew subtitles. Recommended for ages 12+. A play about childhood, friendship, and parting - about happy and sad moments in the lives of the children of the town of Bobruisk on the eve of World War II. The story is presented by a single actress and 25 puppets, with documentary video footage from the period. The narrator's voice is played by the renowned Russian film and theater actor Veniamin Smekhov. The heroine of the play, Maria, is a childhood friend of Berl'e Metz, the hero of the story "Why There's No Paradise on Earth," and of their good friend Efraim, who is the author of the story. As an elderly woman, she receives a phone call from Efraim, and recalls their shared childhood in the 1930s. The episodes unfold one after another, offering a glimpse through the children's eyes of life before and at the start of the war. The play is a touching reminder of the importance of preserving humanity, kindness, and the joy of life.
