Based on: stories by Yaakov Shabtai. Directed by: Yotam Gotal. Featuring: Lia Koenig, Arieh Cherner, Tomer Sharon, Ashrat Ingedesht, Miki Peleg Rothstein. A Tel Aviv fantasy based on the book by Yaakov Shabtai. "Uncle Peretz Takes Off" is Yaakov Shabtai's most famous story collection. In a dozen funny and moving stories, Shabtai describes the landscape of his childhood in the small Tel Aviv of the 1930s: a city full of legends, loves, the sea, and new immigrants from every corner of the world. The stage adaptation is based on two central stories - "Uncle Peretz Takes Off" and "The Marriage Proposal". The first story portrays the heartbreak of a man torn between his wife and his mistress, and the second reveals a marriage proposal in old age. At the center of these stories stand two characters - the narrator's grandmother on one hand (played by Lia Koenig) and his uncle on the other. These two characters teach those around them — and learn themselves — that love can blossom at any age; they raise questions that remain relevant about the Israeli family; and above all, they fill the stage with a desire to rise above the gray reality, to aim high, to take off and fly.
