Doors open at 19:00. It's recommended to arrive close to doors-opening time for the show, part of the marathon event 'Flying to Vote – Invited to Perform.' A rare opportunity to enjoy wonderful Israeli musicians who have made their mark abroad, and also to show appreciation for the fact that they came from so far away, especially to take part in the elections. Pianist and composer Daniel Friedman has been living and working in Berlin for several years now. She is coming to vote, and taking the chance for a renewed musical reunion with her Israeli trio: David Michaeli on double bass and Roy Ben Yosef on drums. Friedman's music moves naturally between lyrical melodies and energetic, rhythmic pieces, and between carefully crafted writing and improvisational freedom. She weaves together jazz, classical music, Brazilian rhythms, and free improvisation into a personal musical language that is rich and inquisitive. Jazz critic Mike Jurkovich wrote about her and the trio in All About Jazz magazine: "It's so easy to get swept up in the imaginative leaps that Daniel and her trio take, driven by curiosity and a passion for wandering between musical worlds." Friedman studied at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York, and after several years in the New York jazz scene moved to Berlin. Since then she has established herself in the European jazz scene, released two albums — School of Fish and Weary Gold — and performed throughout Europe with ensembles and projects she led. At this reunion show at Shablul, the trio will present new music from Friedman's recently recorded third album, alongside pieces from her previous albums and additional material — an evening of original, adventurous, and dynamic music, born from the deep familiarity and live dialogue between the three musicians. Daniel Friedman – piano and composition; David Michaeli – double bass; Roy Ben Yosef – drums.
