Ages 17+. Rubber Merchants – a play with songs. By Hanoch Levin. Directed by Moria Zarhia. Starring Ido Mosseri, Lilian Barto, Uri Hochman. Yochanan Tzingerbai, a bachelor longing for love, walks into Bella Berlo's pharmacy — a spinster who also longs for love — to buy rubber contraceptives. Out of that awkwardness an intimate conversation develops between them, but then Shmuel Sfrol walks in, who inherited ten thousand condoms from his father and is now trying to get rid of them and turn the inheritance into cash. Shmuel offers Yochanan a discount. Bella offers him love. Yochanan chooses love. Later that evening, meeting at Bella's home, the love doesn't take hold. Bella is gentle in romance but tough in negotiation, and the two part ways. Twenty years pass. Yochanan Tzingerbai is now an aging bachelor, still thirsty for love. He returns to Bella Berlo's old pharmacy — she too is an aging spinster still yearning for love — to buy rubber contraceptives once again. Then Shmuel Sfrol returns to the scene as well — also an aging bachelor, still trying to get rid of the worn-out rubber stock he has left — and the encounters of the past seem to reawaken. They talk nonstop, regret the life they missed, and weave dreams — but as before, they know how to take and don't know how to give. No wedding, no love, nothing. And another chance won't come around again. The show contains content of a sexual nature and is recommended for ages 17 and up.
