Doors at Shablul Club open an hour and a half before the show starts. It's recommended to arrive close to doors opening. Singer Maya Beit On, one of the young and intriguing voices on the local jazz scene, presents a new, personal show dedicated to the songs and artists who shaped her musical world. At the heart of the show are jazz classics that crossed languages and borders, some of which received Hebrew versions over the years performed by beloved artists like Matti Caspi and Gidi Gov. Songs born far from here that, through their Hebrew lyrics, took on a new meaning — close and familiar. Alongside them, Maya performs additional jazz classics in original Hebrew translations she wrote herself, out of a desire to connect the music she grew up on with her own language and personal voice. Accompanied by a quintet of musicians, Maya brings a fresh, characterful interpretation of familiar songs to the stage, with room for improvisation, dialogue between the musicians, and the musical freedom at the heart of jazz. A meeting between the American jazz tradition and Israeli music, between familiar songs and new interpretations, and between two languages that manage to tell the same story in different ways.
