"...relationships after death are a strange thing, and one that certainly hasn't been studied enough. Most people I meet can talk for hours about their relationships with living people, researching and delving into them, but the moment someone dies, they stop exploring what's happening now in that relationship. Or at least they almost never talk about it. And anyone who has lost someone knows that a lot happens, and keeps happening." - Maya Tevet Dayan Do the dead leave us signs? Do they gain godlike powers? Do they watch over us? Can we ask things of them? Do we need to report to them the events happening in our lives, or do they see for themselves? Do they have feelings? Can we offend them? Can they be hurt or disappointed? Can they be happy? Should we take their feelings into account in our everyday actions? Whether we believe in reincarnation, life after death, angels, or believe there is nothing at all, complete emptiness, a bagel hole... what's certain is that there are relationships — there are words we never got to say, sentences etched into memory, and conversations that are still ongoing. In this show, the Lupo family encounters its various relationships with its dead. Its purpose is to explore the radioactive soil from which a family grows, and to reveal how the emotional radiation of past events sends down roots and reaches into the lives of the generations that follow — how it affects family dynamics — and to try to understand how we inherit, curate, and process material that is present but not necessarily known.
