Doors open at Shablul club an hour and a half before the show starts. It's recommended to arrive close to door opening. The excellent trumpeter Eli Preminger, well known to Shablul's audience, continues his monthly line of Friday afternoon shows — light, energetic and full of groove. Every month we meet for a show that moves the body and warms the heart / starts the weekend with a smile. This time Eli will host virtuoso guitarist Yaakov Hoter for a celebration of gypsy swing, in tribute to one of the most original and influential musicians in the history of jazz — Django Reinhardt. In the 1930s, in the cafés and nightclubs of Paris, a new and thrilling sound was born: a meeting between the gypsy musical tradition and the jazz and swing arriving from America. At its center stood Django Reinhardt, a genius guitarist who, despite a severe injury that limited the movement of two fingers on his left hand, developed a revolutionary playing style. Together with violinist Stephane Grappelli he created Jazz Manouche, gypsy jazz, which to this day is identified with rhythmic acoustic guitars, sweeping violin, virtuosic improvisation and melodies full of charm. Preminger and Hoter, among the leading gypsy swing musicians in Israel, join together in an excellent ensemble that will bring back the vibrant atmosphere of Paris between the two world wars, with classics like Minor Swing, the beloved chanson La Mer, and more gems from the French and gypsy repertoire. Friday afternoon with lots of swing, rhythm, improvisation and joy of life.
