Engagement Party - Beit Lessin Theatre

Engagement Party – written and directed by Hillel Mittelpunkt, a powerful, sharp and merciless drama that exposes the fragility hidden behind a facade of family life and normalcy. Against the backdrop of the war shaking the country and undermining every sense of security, one family gathers at a pastoral cabin resort in the north. After more than a decade of growing apart, they come together in a desperate attempt to restore a lost closeness and celebrate the younger daughter's engagement. But behind the festive meal, the restrained smiles and the polite words, an unbearable tension builds. Old secrets that were never buried resurface, personal interests collide, and lies kept for years threaten to tear the family apart from within. When a forbidden affair from the past is about to be exposed and a bribery offer shakes everyone, each family member is forced to choose between loyalty to their loved ones and loyalty to their values. Does family come before everything? Is there room for morality in a world where everything is crumbling? And how far is a person willing to go to protect themselves, their loved ones and their own truth? Hillel Mittelpunkt weaves a gripping, powerful family thriller that cuts to the heart of the wounds, contradictions and dilemmas occupying Israeli society today, peeling away one by one the delicate mechanisms that hold a family – and a country – on the brink of falling apart.
