A musical journey through one of the most fascinating and influential periods in jazz history — from the singular world of Thelonious Monk to the post-bop of the 1960s and the music of Herbie Hancock. Monk was one of the most original voices in jazz: a pianist and composer who built a language all his own, full of surprising harmonies, unexpected rhythms, and space. Herbie Hancock took the language of modern jazz further, and in the 1960s was a central figure in the development of post-bop — a more open and adventurous jazz in which the boundaries between composition and improvisation became ever more flexible. From Monk to Hancock moves along the axis between these two giants. Alongside works by Monk and Hancock, the quartet will also perform pieces by other pianists and composers who were part of that era and its evolving language — together forming a broad picture of the development, freedom, and creativity of jazz during this period. The quartet is led by pianist and producer Hod Moshonov (BEMET), who has performed for years around the world, including alongside the legendary drummer Poogie Bell, and at venues and festivals such as the Blue Note Jazz Festival, Paleo Festival, and Burning Man. Alongside him are trumpeter Arad Yeini, bassist Gilad Avro, and drummer Shai Zalman — four musicians who bring this music to the stage not as a chapter in history, but as living material: a place for encounter, improvisation, and the freedom that has been at the heart of jazz from its beginnings to today.
