An Israeli Love Story - Orna Porat Theater for Children and Youth

To avoid disturbing your children's viewing experience, children and toddlers under the recommended age will not be admitted to the hall. The show is intended for ages 14–18. "An Israeli Love Story" is a one-woman play based on the true story of writer and playwright Pnina Gary, weaving together personal love with the historical events that shaped the nation-to-be. In the summer of 1942, Margalit Dromi, a young woman from Nahalal, and Eli Ben-Zvi, a Palmach fighter and son of Rachel Yanait and Yitzhak Ben-Zvi, later the second President of the State of Israel, meet by chance on a bus to Jerusalem. The brief encounter grows into a great love, whose story unfolds over six fateful years. Through the relationship between Margalit and Eli, a period of struggle, ideals, and pioneering spirit is revealed, alongside moments of coming of age, hope, and personal choice. Their story progresses alongside the processes that led to the founding of the state and the War of Independence, weaving in memories, songs, and characters from the spirit of the era. The show offers a human and intimate look at Israeli history: not just a sequence of national events, but a reality that penetrated the lives, dreams, and love of young people. The play was written inspired by the life of Pnina Gary, who served as artistic director of the Orna Porat Theater from 1981–1990 and continued as a member of the theater's board until her death in August 2023.
