Jerusalem Ballet presents: "Houdini – The Other Side." Jerusalem Ballet presents an original, powerful stage work examining the complex figure of Harry Houdini, the legendary illusionist born as Erik Weisz, the son of a Jewish family and a rabbi. The show journeys behind the cloak of the world's most famous magician, revealing the man behind the stunts. His daring escape acts — freeing himself from handcuffs, chains, and ropes — turned Houdini into an international legend and thrilled tens of thousands of spectators. But what drove him to return again and again to scenarios of being bound and breaking free? From what chains was he really trying to free himself? "Houdini – The Other Side" offers a new reading of the escape acts: not merely as a spectacular physical challenge, but as a profound expression of the search for inner freedom and identity. The work gives space to Houdini's Jewish roots and to the tension between belonging, identity, and freedom. Breaking free from chains becomes, in the show, a symbol — of personal and national liberty, and of the human yearning to break free from visible and hidden bonds. Through powerful movement language, striking stage imagery, and intensive physical work, Jerusalem Ballet brings to the stage a moving, dramatic portrait of one of the most fascinating artists in 20th-century history. "Houdini – The Other Side" is a dance performance that moves between danger and fragility, between illusion and truth, and between a bound body and a free soul.
