The Jerusalem Ballet presents: 'Houdini – The Other Side.' The Jerusalem Ballet presents an original and powerful stage work examining the complex figure of Harry Houdini, the legendary illusionist born Erik Weisz, son of a Jewish family and a rabbi father. The show journeys behind the curtain of the world-famous magician's cloak, revealing the man behind the stunt. His daring escape acts – breaking free of handcuffs, chains, and ropes – turned Houdini into an international legend and thrilled countless spectators. But what drove him to return again and again to scenarios of binding and release? From what chains was he truly trying to free himself? 'Houdini – The Other Side' offers a new reading of the escape acts: not merely as a spectacular physical challenge, but as a profound expression of the search for inner freedom and identity. The work makes room for Houdini's Jewish roots and the tension between belonging, identity, and freedom. Breaking free of the chains becomes, in the show, a symbol – of personal and national freedom, and of the human longing to break free of visible and hidden shackles. Through powerful movement language, striking stage imagery, and intense physical work, the Jerusalem Ballet brings to the stage a moving and dramatic portrait of one of the most intriguing artists in 20th-century history. 'Houdini – The Other Side' is a dance performance that moves between danger and fragility, illusion and truth, and a body in chains and a free soul.
