The Jewish Theatre of Israel and the Shazar Center present Doña — a gripping musical drama about a woman who dared to dream big. An original musical play about Doña Gracia — Hannah Nasi. Doña Gracia is one of the most important and fascinating Jewish women in history. Against the backdrop of the Inquisition, the persecutions, and the complex lives of the Conversos of Spain and Portugal, the inspiring story unfolds of a brave, visionary woman who worked to save persecuted Jews and devoted her life to the future of her people. The play combines songs by four groundbreaking poets from the Jewish and Sephardic tradition in Israel, alongside moving Ladino songs, storytelling, and movement. An Israeli family relocates to Spain, and the past begins to seep into the world of Spain's Jews and its Conversos. This is a story of courage, identity, belonging, faith, and hope — the story of a people searching for refuge and safety throughout history, seen through the eyes of one woman who dared to dream and change the course of history.
