The Jewish Theatre of Israel and the Shazar Center present the play Doña – a sweeping musical about a woman who dared to dream big. An original musical play about Doña Gracia, starring Hana Nassi. Doña Gracia is one of the most important and fascinating Jewish women in history. Set against the backdrop of the Inquisition, the persecutions, and the complex lives of the Conversos of Spain and Portugal, this is the inspiring story of a courageous, visionary woman who worked to save persecuted Jews and devoted her life to the future of her people. The show combines songs by four groundbreaking female poets from the Jewish diaspora and the State of Israel, alongside moving Ladino songs, stories, and movement. An Israeli family relocates to Spain, and the past begins to seep into their world, into the lives of the Jews of Spain and the Conversos. This is a story of courage, identity, belonging, faith, and hope – the story of a people seeking refuge and safety throughout history, seen through the eyes of one woman who dared to dream and change the course of history.
