Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band — the eighth studio album by The Beatles, released in 1967. Music critics and scholars unanimously consider it one of the most influential and significant works in the history of popular music, and it long topped Rolling Stone's famous list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Its distinction lies in its concept: the members of The Beatles perform as a fictional band led by Sergeant Pepper. Recorded at the legendary Abbey Road studio, the album was a true revolution in sound recording, music production under George Martin and album design, allowing the group to move beyond its 'Beatlemania' image. Its cover is one of the most recognizable in the world: the musicians depicted in bright military uniforms surrounded by more than sixty historical figures in a famous collage.
