Subtitles in Hebrew and Russian. In the first third of the twentieth century, Stefan Zweig was the most successful writer in Europe. His many books adorned every home and public library and topped the bestseller lists. But the 1930s erased all of that. His books were burned by the Nazis. He fled Europe and watched from across the ocean as his homeland drowned in horrors. Exiled, despairing and shattered, Zweig wrote his farewell work to Europe, "The World of Yesterday," which also became his farewell work to the world. The play "The World of Yesterday" is based on his writings and dives into the complex inner world of a man trying to choose the good in a world that is collapsing. "'The World of Yesterday' is a different kind of theater, blessed with futuristic innovation, a top-tier league at the heights of Jerusalem. I'm straining here with verbal acrobatics, just so that you'll go up to Jerusalem and witness with your own astonished eyes the wonder of this stage production." Hagit Bat Eliezer, Yekum Tarbut.
