Artist Portrait - Stations in Time: Itzik Kala - part of the 26-27 season of the Jerusalem East & West Orchestra. Arrangements and musical direction: Tom Cohen. Long before artists learned how to "grow from the ground up," and with very little help from the media, Itzik Kala had already become a towering symbol. Beyond being one of the pillars of Mizrahi music in Israel, Kala collaborated with the greatest and the best, released dozens of albums, and gave us a long, beloved list of unforgettable classics. Over an amazing career spanning decades, Kala carved out an almost legendary status in Israeli music. As a true symbol of the city of Jerusalem and a recipient of the city's Yakir Ha'ir (Distinguished Citizen) award, and as someone who, in our eyes, best represents the potential beauty of the music that comes out of it, we are excited for the opportunity to host this living legend for a concert series that musically connects Kurdistan, Turkey, Greece, and Israel. Guest musician: Naor Ben Dror. Photo credit, Itzik Kala: Uri Eliyahu. Photo credit, orchestra: Tal Shahar.
