When it was recorded in 1959, it was considered a bold gamble: instead of settling for familiar time signatures, the Dave Brubeck Quartet set out on a musical adventure and used time signatures such as 9/8 and 5/4 (which were not common in jazz music at the time) to create a timeless classic. This album also gave birth to Take Five — the most famous and successful jazz track of all time.
