An intriguing encounter between two musical worlds – classical music and jazz. In the spirit of the Third Stream that developed in the second half of the 20th century, a unique dialogue is created between the structures and harmonies of the classical tradition and the freedom, groove, and improvisation of jazz. The quartet – Steve Wilson, Alon Nechushtan on piano, Yorai Oron on bass, and Dani Benedikt on drums – presents a rich program combining works that became milestones in the meeting between the two styles. Among the pieces on the program: Take Five by Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond, "Salute to Bach" by Oscar Peterson, "Homage to Chopin" by Dave Brubeck, and Blues Baroque by John Lewis and the Modern Jazz Quartet. The influence of the Third Stream reached beyond the world of jazz and also affected jazz-rock artists. Keith Emerson, for instance, influenced by the music of Aaron Copland, created dramatic connections between classical music and progressive rock. The show will also feature the piece Jerusalem by Emerson, Lake & Palmer. An evening of a rich musical mosaic in which stylistic boundaries blur – a new and thrilling encounter between classical, jazz, and improvisation! Steve Wilson is one of the leading alto and soprano saxophonists of his generation, described by Jazz Times as "one of the best around today" and a flawless composer-performer.
