"... Relationships after death are a strange matter, and one that certainly isn't studied enough. Most people I meet can talk for hours about their relationships with living people, exploring and delving into them, but the moment someone dies, they stop exploring what's happening now in the connection between them. Or at the very least, they almost never talk about it. And anyone who has lost someone knows that a great deal happens, and keeps happening." / Maya Tevet Dayan. Do the dead leave us signs? Do they gain the powers of a god? Do they watch over us? Can we ask things of them? Do we need to report to them about the events happening in our lives, or do they see for themselves? Do they have feelings? Can we insult them? Can they be hurt or disappointed? Happy? Should we take their feelings into account in our daily actions? Whether we believe in reincarnation, life after death, angels, or believe there's nothing at all — complete emptiness, a total void — what's certain is that there are relationships: there are words we never managed to say, sentences etched into memory, and conversations that continue to take place. In this show, the Lupo family confronts its various relationships with its dead. Its purpose is to explore the radioactive soil from which a family grows, and to reveal how the emotional radiation of past events sends down roots and reaches into the lives of the generations that follow — how it shapes family dynamics — and to try to understand how we inherit, curate and process the materials of what is present but not necessarily known.
