A celebration of swing, groove and soul - Creole music, blues and boogie-woogie. The Barrelhouse Jazzband, one of the most prominent and successful ensembles on the international traditional jazz scene, is Europe's oldest continuously active independent jazz band - performing without interruption since 1953, with no institutional backing. Having played in 58 countries across five continents and with an impressive presence on the world's major stages, the band brings jazz that is alive and breathing - jazz that knows and respects its roots, yet sounds completely of the here and now. They bring a rich selection of masterpieces from classic jazz and blues, New Orleans music and Creole jazz, alongside newer original compositions - a journey spanning more than a hundred years of jazz history. Their music is expressive and varied, deeply rooted in the authenticity of the blues and spiced with a touch of "show" that makes the experience unforgettable. The Barrelhouse Jazzband takes old-time jazz, lights it up again and gives it a completely contemporary vibe. Tradition with groove - and a forward-looking spirit. Featuring: Caroline Mhlanga, vocals (Berlin); Joachim Lösch, trumpet (Berlin); Uli Wunner, clarinet, saxophone (Berlin); Frank Selten, clarinet, soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone (Berlin); Jan Luley, piano, vocals (Berlin); Roman Kloecker, guitar, banjo (Berlin); Lindy Huppertsberg, double bass (Berlin); Michael Ehret, drums (Berlin).
