The Father – a new production by Theatre Elad in collaboration with the Cameri Theatre – returns to the stage with one of the most moving and impressive plays written in our generation. The Father, starring Dvir Benedek, is a play that moves between human drama and black comedy, rare in its beauty and honesty, the kind that leaves audiences leaving the hall wanting to hug their loved ones tightly. André, a man in his sixties, an engineer – or perhaps even a dancer – father to two daughters, or maybe just one. He lives in his own home, or perhaps in his daughter and her partner's home. On his wrist is an extraordinarily precise watch, but the clock inside him is malfunctioning; this is called dementia. The play leads us, with great talent, compassion and humor, into André's thoughts. Unlike a regular play, we don't observe him from outside but experience his world through his eyes – a world whose cracks keep widening into chaotic reality. At every moment André tries, together with us, to piece together the crumbling mosaic of his life. Sometimes the threads connect, and sometimes they refuse; people, places, times and events intertwine, blur, reappear, all within a mind searching for an anchor in stormy waters. This is a story about memory, about human connections, about longing, and about a great inner spirit that never goes out – even when precious things get lost along the way. The award-winning immersive play by French playwright Florian Zeller is performed on the world's greatest theatre stages, and has already become a modern classic. This work was also adapted into a successful film, which won the Academy Award.
