An opera performed in French, "Pelléas et Mélisande" is the only opera Claude Debussy completed; it was written between 1893 and 1902 and is based on the symbolist play of the same name by Maurice Maeterlinck. The work's world premiere took place on April 30, 1902, in Paris. It is a masterpiece of musical impressionism, combining the playwright's text — almost unchanged — with sophisticated, atmospherically rich music. Prince Golaud finds the mysterious girl Mélisande in the forest, marries her, and brings her to the castle. Mélisande falls in love with Pelléas, Golaud's younger brother, which arouses Golaud's jealousy and sets off a tragic chain of events. This is an hour-long opera version in a full production with lighting, sets, and costumes, performed in French. The leading roles are performed by soloists of the Jerusalem Lyric Opera, accompanied by an orchestra. For the first time in a Jerusalem Lyric Opera production, a special theatrical projection screen is used, turning the stage into a space between reality and dream. Images appear before the audience's eyes as if emerging out of nothing, then dissolve, revealing what lies hidden behind them. Featuring: Mélisande — Noy Shiloh, Pelléas — Mordechai Takai, Golaud — Tristan Agar, Arkel — Guido Dechini, Yniold — Rachel Barkan-Weiner. Direction — Alina Amromina. Musical direction — Dr. Sofia Mazor. Don't miss a mysterious, dreamlike evening, full of the extraordinary music of Claude Debussy.
