A stunning stage adaptation of one of the best-loved novels of all time, from the pen of the Jewish-Austrian author and journalist Stefan Zweig. The production comes to Habima Theatre in a world premiere, in a surprising, mystery-style adaptation by Hanan Snir — one of Israel's most veteran and acclaimed directors. At the center of The Post-Office Girl's plot is Christine, a young woman from a poor village whose world is turned completely upside down when she receives a mysterious invitation to stay at a luxurious Swiss hotel. The unimaginable wealth, abundance, and music sweep her off her feet and lead her to adopt a false identity as a young noblewoman. But when the lie is exposed, she is expelled from the hotel in disgrace and forced to return to her meager, hard life. Yet someone who has tasted paradise, even for a moment, does not easily give it up. Christine decides to take a radical step that will change her life forever. "The Post-Office Girl" is a poetic, rhythmic play, accompanied by live music performed by three musicians, sensitively tracing the fine line between happiness and despair.
