Festival 2026 by the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra. The program brings together Cleopatra and Giulio Cesare — two figures whose relationship inspired Baroque composers to write virtuosic and lyrical operatic scenes. The program includes Johann Adolf Hasse — the overture to "Antonio and Cleopatra" and an aria of Cleopatra; Carl Heinrich Graun — an aria of Cleopatra; Antonio Sartorio — arias of Cesare and Cleopatra and a sinfonia from "L'Orfeo"; George Frideric Handel — arias of Cesare and Cleopatra and Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No. 12. Shaked Bar moves between the character of Cleopatra and the character of Cesare, revealing both a feminine and a masculine perspective on the story. The arias are woven into orchestral movements, creating a musical portrait of the two rulers and of the dramatic relationship between them. The "Witches?" Festival is now in its fifth year. The 2026 festival theme, "Echo," is dedicated to women as creators, performers, queens, patronesses, muses and heroines, and to the influence they left on music and culture. The program moves from ancient myths to twentieth-century jazz, and from European salons to the contemporary stage.
