Awaiting you is the rooftop of an ancient monastery in Jaffa, sea air, hundreds of candles and the beauty of classical music performed by a string quintet. Here, the classical music everyone is so used to will sound different. Vivaldi's elements come alive in the waves of the sea: from the sunny breath of 'Spring' to the dramatic finale of 'Storm'. Mozart — light as a summer evening. His night serenade will be a romantic start to the journey, and the energy of the 'Queen of the Night' takes on a bold new edge played on the strings. The music of Albinoni and Schubert with their soft lyricism, the fire of Brahms's Hungarian dances, the French sensuality of 'Carmen' under violins soaring off into the clouds. Strauss's waltzes lift you above the rooftops of the old city, and Piazzolla adds passion and sensuality with his tango. Classical music can be alive, moving, full of emotion. On evenings like this you can feel all the beauty of the moment: the candle flames, the ancient monastery walls and the Mediterranean right behind the musicians. 'Una Cabeza' will sound like a scene from a film unfolding right in front of you. This concert is not about genres and eras, not about old chairs with worn upholstery and a heavy curtain. It is about us, about this eternal city that falls asleep with its lights fading in the distance. The sea breathes below, and the music sounds so close. In moments like these you realize that nothing is more relevant than the classics. Taking part in the concert are musicians of the Rishon LeZion Orchestra (the orchestra of the Israeli Opera) and the Philharmonic Orchestra. Please note: the concert takes place at an open-air venue on the grounds of an ancient monastery by the sea. Evenings by the sea can be cool, so we recommend bringing a light wrap or something warm in case of chilly weather. Please also note that there is no bar or café on the monastery grounds. Entrance to the monastery is from the Jaffa promenade, not through the Old City. See you among the candles, the music and the evening sea.
