Hanel and Maccabit - a new Israeli comedy based on the hit web series by Osherit Sarusi and Chen Rotman. Directed by: Udi Gotshalk. Hanel and Maccabit draws on beloved, familiar characters from a hit web series and expands their story into new territory. Maccabit, who works as a teacher and counselor at a girls' religious seminary, finds herself at the start of a complicated chapter in her life after divorcing Hanel — the school's housefather. The routine that follows the crisis is upended in an instant when she discovers that Hanel is having a romantic relationship with a young national-service volunteer at the school. Faced with this discovery, she gives him a clear, firm ultimatum: end the relationship, or leave his position at the seminary. Meanwhile, a chance but meaningful encounter with a colleague from the teachers' lounge sets Maccabit off on a new personal journey. That colleague creates a dating-app profile for her, and without planning it, Maccabit finds herself slowly drawn into a world she never knew — one that shakes her inner world and lets her see herself from a fresh angle. The changes in Maccabit's life don't stay contained — they unsettle Hanel, throw him off balance, and raise questions he never dared confront. Against this backdrop, an inevitable question arises: could the two of them reconcile and untangle the complicated ties they've found themselves in, or does the path each of them has carved out lead them in separate directions? The play was written by Chen Rotman and Osherit Sarusi, the creators and screenwriters behind the cult series "Zot Ve'Zoti." Hanel and Maccabit premiered as a staged reading as part of the "Potchim Bama" festival in 2024, where it drew considerable interest that already hinted at its future life on stage.
