When meticulous classical aesthetics meets the unique sound of one of the fathers of Israeli rock, the result is a musical explosion like no other. Maestro Gil Shohat has teamed up with singer-songwriter Izhar Ashdot for a new, one-time production that takes apart and rebuilds the concept of "music without borders." On this evening, Ashdot's electric guitar and polished sound blend into Shohat's rich pianistic and orchestral texture, together giving new life to the greatest classics of local rock and pop. The program centers on Ashdot's biggest hits, from the tender ballad "The Shadow of a Summer Day" to the love anthem "Our Nights." The audience will get to hear "What Will You Say," the unmistakable song that broke out in 1992, alongside "Every Time I Fall in Love (With You Again)," which grew out of that same legendary performance at the Hard Rock Cafe. Into these songs, Shohat weaves two immortal masterpieces that are pillars of the classical world: Mozart's "Eine kleine Nachtmusik," with its brilliant lightness and mathematical beauty, and movements from Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 — a powerfully romantic work demanding supreme pianistic virtuosity. The connection between Rachmaninoff's melodic drama and Izhar Ashdot's singular melodies creates a fascinating dialogue, in which the guitar and piano become one voice. This is a musical journey moving between the 18th century and 21st-century rock, an evening full of passion, quality, and new arrangements that rediscover the power of the music. Performers: Izhar Ashdot; Haya Yosha – double bass; Nati Cohen – drums; Polyphonia Ensemble; Gil Shohat – conducting, piano, arrangement, direction and musical management.
