A screening of the documentary Esther, winner of the Directing and Editing awards at the DocAviv Festival 2026, followed by a conversation with the film's director, Shaked Goren. The evening will close with a tribute performance of Esther Ofarim's songs, performed by singer Tom Cohen with guitar accompaniment by Yonatan Keret. About the film: Esther Ofarim, one of the great voices to emerge from Israel, achieved dizzying success — and then, almost overnight, disappeared. For decades she has lived in her modest apartment in Hamburg, far from the tumult of the Middle East. Through phone calls between Shaked, the film's director in Tel Aviv, and Esther in Germany, the geographic and emotional distance between the two unfolds. This is a journey across places, identities, and times, from which emerges the delicate, elusive figure of an artist who is both a symbol and a distillation of Israeliness — an essence that is at once repelled and sustained. Winner of the Directing Award and the Editing Award, DocAviv Festival 2026. Director: Shaked Goren Production: Ayelet Kite and Amir Harel Israel, 2026, Hebrew/German The event takes place with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sport.
