Play by Amnon Levi. Director: Yehezkel Lazarov. In the Mea Shearim quarter, a group of women decides to rebel against the community leadership in order to save one of them from an unhappy and cruel marriage. They use the only ancient and effective weapon at their disposal: avoiding their husbands. They refuse to go to the mikveh and begin to withhold marital relations until their friend is freed from the shackles of her marriage. 'The Rebels' is a touching and funny drama by Amnon Levi that shows women's struggle for equality in the most unexpected place. The women of a Haredi quarter decide that the value of helping a woman in need outweighs even the commandment to 'be fruitful and multiply.' They boldly stand up to the men, suffer boycott and persecution, and still continue their struggle despite the high price. Levi drew inspiration for the play from a similar movement of abstaining from marital life that recently took place in Satmar, New York, demanding the release of an agunah. That movement succeeded and shook the Haredi world. Cast: Shlomo Bar-Aba, Rona-Lee Shimon, Henry David, Tali Sharon, Nati Kluger, Noa Rabinovich, Meir Toledano, Gil Weiss.
